Als ich wisse das Morgen der Erde enden wuerde, immernoch wurd ich mein Apfelbaum pflanzen.

Even if I knew the world would perish tomorrow, I would still plant my apple tree. - Martin Luther

What To Do With Your Tweens in NYC

With ski season and a great production of James and the Giant Peach behind us, the kids and I headed to NYC over Easter to celebrate our birthdays.

The American Museum of Natural History

We love this museum!  It is one of our very favorite places in New York.  I've taken the kids to the city three times, and each time we've spent time exploring this gem of a museum.  This time we attempted to find "characters" from Night at the Museum.  There is so much to see - avoid buying too many add ons.  You are able to choose a pay what you will price, but you need to do that at a ticket counter.

Central Park

My kids love to run and climb.  When we visit Manhatten we stay with a childless friend so it's important to give my two some space to be crazy.  I can't think of a better place than Central Park.  I try to make a point of walking through the park when we can so that they can blow off some steam.  There are excellent rocks to climb, wide paths for silly running, and most of the park (at least in mid-town) is very clean and safe.

The Metropolitan Musuem of Art

We spent a day at The Met - concentrating mainly on the Egypt, Arms and Armory and American Impressionist sections.  If you go be sure to pay the extra $5 for the audio tour.  The kids loved it - most of the exhibits had extra information, pictures and sometimes even videos.  Perfect to get kids engaged with the artwork.  Plan to spend the whole day.  For lunch, there are some excellent cafes inside the museum, or you could hit up one of the food trucks which is always parked outside.

The temple of Dendur

 Dylan's Candy Bar

Two floors of all the kinds of candy your kids can dream of - just be careful - it's sold by the pound and you don't weigh the candy until you're ready to purchase.

 See a Show

This time we went to see Les Miserables.  My kids loved it because they're familiar with both the book and the musical.  However, some parts can be graphic.  I've also taken them to see Wicked and The Lion King is next on our list.

 Walk Across Brooklyn Bridge

The kids and our NYC host took a nighttime stroll halfway across the bridge - the views were incredible.
